isolation and identification of candida species from the oral cavity using chromagar candida
Authors
abstract
chromagar candida is a new chromogenic culture medium that is used for the isolation and direct identification of some of the most clinically important yeast pathogens on the basis of colony colour. the aim of the study was to isolate and identify candida species from the oral cavity with chromagar candida. samples (158) from 68 orthodontic patients wearing upper removable orthodontic appliances and 51 oral medicine patients were cultured on chromagar candida at 37c for 48 h. isolates with green colonies in colour were all confirmed as c. albicans (53) by germ tube test and others were confirmed as c. parapsilosis (10) and c. glabrata (3) by rapid id 32 c kits. there were 11 cases of mixed yeast cultures in this study that were easily recognised using the medium. in conclusion, c. albicans is the most frequently isolated yeast from the oral cavity of both orthodontic and oral medicine patients. moreover chromagar candida is a useful culture medium for the isolation and direct identification of candida species, especially mixed cultures.

full textIsolation and Identification of Candida from the Oral Cavity
Various techniques are available for the isolation of Candida within the oral cavity. Such methods play an important role in the diagnosis and management of oral candidosis. The growing importance of Candida is in part related to the emergence of HIV infection and the more widespread use of immunosuppressive chemotherapy. Along with the Candida albicans there has been a greater recognition of t...
full textIsolation and Rapid identification of Candida species from the Oral cavity
CHROMagar Candida is a new differential culture medium that allows the isolation and presumptive identification of species of yeast of clinical importance. During the past two decades, there has been a significant increase in the prevalence of fungal infections caused by Candida species. The aim of the study was to isolate and identify Candida species from the oral cavity with CHROMagar Candida...
full textIdentification of Candida species in the oral cavity of diabetic patients
Background and Purpose: Diabetic patients are more susceptible to oral candidiasis infection than non-diabetics due to the factors promoting oral carriage of Candida. Several factors can increase colonization of Candida species in the oral cavity such as xerostomia, which reduces the salivary flow and is a salivary pH disorder. In the current study, we aimed to identify and compare the coloniza...
full textCHROMagar Candida, a new differential isolation medium for presumptive identification of clinically important Candida species.
CHROMagar Candida is a novel, differential culture medium that is claimed to facilitate the isolation and presumptive identification of some clinically important yeast species. We evaluated the use of this medium with 726 yeast isolates, including 82 isolated directly on the medium from clinical material. After 2 days of incubation at 37 degrees C, 285 C. albicans isolates gave distinctive gree...
full textA comparison between CHROMagar, PCR-RFLP and PCR-FSP for identification of Candida species
Background and Purpose: The epidemiological alteration in the distribution of Candida species, as well as the significantly increasing trend of either intrinsic or acquired resistance of some of these fungi highlights the need for a reliable method for the identification of the species. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is one of the methods facilitating the quick and precise identification of Ca...
